Today we will officially start our curriculum for Unit 5, which will explore the topic of Chemical Reactions. We are starting a new district curriculum called Model Based Biology, so the slides / lessons / assessments may look and feel slightly different to you. It is more important than ever to be in class each day, because this curriculum includes LOTS of group work and discussion! If you miss a day, please come see me as soon as possible during 1st lunch or after school so I can help you get caught up (as always).
For our first day, we will start exploring the inputs, uses, and outputs of an organism. Inputs are things that we take in, such as food. Uses are how things are used in our body, such as making new cells. Outputs include anything that leaves the body, such as waste, or sweat. We worked in groups to discuss these ideas, shared our initial ideas on whiteboards with the class, and created a whole-class model together. Finally, we did an activity looking at 'mystery meals' and attempted to come up with a Biology-appropriate definition for FOOD!
