Please come to class on Friday ready to start the test and turn in your UPA!
The test covers six standards on evolution and natural selection. It is about 30 questions long, and is half multiple choice, and half open answer / graphing.
Get ready for the test by working through the study guide, checking out the resources below, and reviewing lessons from Unit 2. Feel free to send Mrs.Sayre a message through email or TextRemind if you have any questions!
ALL Unit 2 Assignments are due on 12/7 for credit! After 12/7, we will move on to Unit 3, and no more late work will be accepted for credit.
Remember that variation is differences within a species (for example, some baby turtles are born slightly slower, and some are born slightly faster).
Diversity is difference between species (for example, there are many species of birds in the rainforest!)
Darwin and Lamarck both had different ideas about how species change over time. This video can help you review their ideas. Although they were both great scientists, Darwin's theory is backed by 150 years of scientific evidence!
To practice, choose a trait in an animal, such as a tiger's sharp teeth, and describe how each scientist would have explained the evolution of this trait.
Make sure you have memorized all four factors of evolution, and you can explain what they are! The factors are COMPETITION, OVERPRODUCTION, VARIATION, and INHERITANCE. Without these things happening, a species will not evolve over time. This video will help you review this, especially if you click to 3:54.
This video gives a basic overview of how sexual selection works. Remember that in nature, we see many examples of female choice and male competition, so you can practice by writing down some examples of each of those patterns.
Make sure that you can explain how species change over time in response to the environment! The Peppered Moths is a great example of this, which you can review in this video. This basic video will help you remember the difference between behavioral and physical adaptations.
